Course description


The TONI&GUY School of Hairdressing is proud to assist students in achieving a rewarding career in the fast-growing hairdressing industry. Employment-based learning allows individuals to work and study simultaneously while both gaining a nationally recognised qualification and earning a wage.

The School of Hairdressing is centrally located on Oxford St, Paddington in the hub of Sydney’s fashion, art and cultural scene. The School has been developed to provide a superb experience through every dimension of your education, professionally appointed with lecture and tutorial rooms, a fully equipped technical suite, offering individual, hands-on learning in an intimate classroom environment, and a fully functioning, professional salon, affording students the opportunity to hone skills, explore their education and expand their experience with real clients.

Full-time Hairdressing Apprenticeship is a combination of full-time salon employment and one day per week training in the TONI&GUY School of Hairdressing. Attendance at the TONI&GUY School of Hairdressing covers a 2 year period, however your apprenticeship with your employer is 3 years.

All educators are fully qualified as well as being highly experienced within the industry, comprising of salon owners, artistic directors and technical directors. This allows them to empathise directly with the needs of hairdressing apprentices, salon owners and managers alike.

The School of Hairdressing develops a relationship with all salons and builds trust with salon owners/managers, providing accurate, current and appropriate information.

Educators provide regular, ongoing feedback to all students and salons. Educators at the TONI&GUY School of Hairdressing strive for high devotion from apprentices to their learning as well as high dedication by salons as we believe in a reciprocal commitment that allows students to further develop their careers.

As this is a nationally recognised qualification, you will be required to complete assessments for each of the units you are enrolled.

These assessments are usually:

  • Practicals where you are observed by an assessor
  • Small projects which involve researching product data
  • Short answer theory tests.

You must achieve a satisfactory result in all of these assessments to show that you have the competence to be job ready in a salon.


Australian Residents Prerequisites: None

There is no minimum or maximum age limit for students, in accordance with the 2001 Apprenticeship and Traineeship Act. Those under the age of 17 and who have not completed Year 10 require signed permission from their parent/caregiver, their school and from the TONI&GUY School of Hairdressing. Their acceptance is based upon the student’s abilities and skills to study in an adult learning environment and their interest in specific vocational qualifications.

$253 admin fee per Semester
$156 mannequin & consumable related fee per Semester

Additional Fees: Personal hairdressing equipment. Equipment may be purchased from the TONI&GUY School of Hairdressing or may be purchased elsewhere.
